North Cardiff Chess Club’s Championship Third Round

The move to our excellent new venue of The Discovery Inn, Lakeside, took place with Round 3 of our Championship and went down very well. Its much bigger, and airier and should be able to accommodate even more than the 36 players we had once again last night (up to about 50 should be possible, and still in comfort).

Juniors were to the fore once again with Csege Hanczar continuing his sensational start by downing another big name in Ellison Smith to remain on a 100% score. There were also excellent wins for Oliver Cumiskey, Thomas Jackson, David Belochkin, Constantine Popov and Matilda Kennedy but the award for "Game of the Round" goes to newcomer Ellis Jones for his excellent, controlled win against Adam Colcombe. Other welcome newcomers (now they're finished exams) were Bence Szakmany, Tycho Twohig and Thomas Mulder who we are confident will now move steadily up the field !

Leading Scores after 3 Rounds:

3/3 Tim Kett, Duncan Macdonald, David Llewellyn and Csege Hanczar

2.5 John McGregor

2/3 Bence Szakmany, Kam Chooyin, Alex Kennedy, Gavin Williams, Ellison Smith, Ellis Jones, Tom Davies, Josh McKenna, Oliver Cumiskey, Tycho Twohig, Alun Smith, Emyr Roberts, David Belochkin and Mark Reckless

(plus 28 others between 0 and 1.5 !)

We look forward to welcoming all of you back to the Discovery for Round 4 next week, however well you've done so far - there's still lots of time to catch up and show what you're capable of ! Please though, do all note that in order to make a prompt start at 7.00 we do need to know who's coming by 6.45. If are going to be later than that in arriving then please message on the Club WhatsApp to let us know you are on the way !

Many thanks everybody

Tim, Duncan and the team
