North Cardiff Chess Club’s First Ever Championship Gets Underway

On Tuesday 6 June, 36 of our members sat down to contest the opening round of what we hope will become our annual championship.

As so often with a Swiss event the first round was a bit of a ‘Slaughter of the Innocents’ but a few games turned our surprisingly close - particular kudos to Csombor Hanczar and Adam Kennedy for giving their higher-rated opponents such a shock !

Next week will be Round 2 where everyone will play someone on the same score as themselves

There is no knockout in the tournament - everyone can play in every round and people who missed round 1 can still join in.

Thanks to everyone for playing in such good spirit last night and creating a wonderful atmosphere. And particular thanks to Mo, Duncan, Alun, Kam for all their excellent support in helping everything run so smoothly.
